It wasn't an average weekend for UC, it was rather an exciting one even! I had scheduled in the shoot a while ago but it was a search to find the photographer, makeup artist and the models. Apart from organizing the shoot we also really had to push to get all pieces ready in time. The weekend was there before I realized it and what we set out to do on Saturday wasn't the easiest task but we ended up working with a really cool team; Ishaan Nair aka the photographer (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Ishaan-Nair-Photography/153247634728920), Mallika Jolly aka the makeup artist (https://www.facebook.com/mallikajollyhairandmakeupartist) and Barbora Bakos (http://instagram.com/barborabakos). We all met up at 6 in the morning and left for Dadar after having a shot of coffee.
Now this might not mean anything to you but if you tell a Mumbaiker that you are going to Dadar just "for fun" they will look at you a little weird, because who would want to go there voluntarily? It happens to be one of, if not "the", busiest train station in Mumbai. It is also home to Dadar flower market and one of my favorite places in the city because so much is happening on so little space. There are just too many people, too many colors, too many odors, there's too much noise but when you can enjoy the beauty in the chaos and filter out everything that doesn't fit into the picture it is just a picture perfect.
I desperately wanted to shoot at Dadar for that specific reason, to capture the chaos and colors of a place that I love but I can never seem to fit in for obvious reasons. Barbora wearing the jackets , which are quite minimalist and simple, create an interesting contrast with the surroundings. But I didn't make it easy for everyone because it was really very very hot and since we were shooting at Dadar between 7 and 9 (because we were hoping it would be cooler) it was also the busiest of times.
We attracted quite the attention that day. The climax being when we were shooting on a walkover towards the station. I'm guessing we were surrounded by almost a hundred bypassers and a cop who eventually got us to move on. It was pretty cool to have so many people stare at the same exact "picture".
So Saturday was for what we call the look book shoot, these are shots that are supposed to communicate the personality and story of the brand/collection. On Sunday on the other hand we had the studio shoot where we shot the images for the website of each product individually. I am lucky enough that Marieke, a dear Belgian friend, wanted to shoot this with me so it turned out to be a pretty relaxed afternoon followed by good pizza!
Now it's just a matter of waiting for the edited images, continuing production smoothly and getting the store up and running (writing it down makes it sound so easy but I'm guessing it won't be!). And put Sunday the 15th of June in your agenda as the official launch date of our first Unknown Curiosity collection! Details will follow...
